Kevin Monahan Does Color Correction on “Jewel” Video for Nissan Live Sets Series, Yahoo! and MTV

July 29th, 2008 · No Comments

I recently completed color correction on a “Jewel” live concert video for Nissan Live Sets, which you can see on Yahoo! and MHD, MTV’s HD music channel. Take a look at the above video if you are curious about the work.

The job entailed matching audience shots with the onstage shots as some didn’t match due to editing choices. The first color correction pass had already been done using the Final Cut Pro 3-Way Color Correction filter, so I did not have the option of taking the 720P project into Apple Color. Many of the audience shots had crushed blacks, so I brought out some of the details in the shadows. I removed some of the color pollution in the blacks, and adjustments for broadcast safe, as well.

The job took place at Threshold Studios in Santa Monica. I hope to talk the post production staff about using Apple Color in the future. I have another gig with them this Friday, but am not sure which artist’s video I will be working on yet. I’m sure it will be someone interesting (bands like Weezer, Foo Fighters and others are already showing), for sure, so stay tuned!

Drop me a line if you are interested in my color correction or editing services.
